This is almost true. I am the Systems Administrator for a Web Hosting company, we have dedicated, shared, and VPS Hosting available. Shared hosting is good for any site, that the owner of the site doesn't need "root" (administrator privledges) on the server, or custom PHP / APACHE / CGI. If you need "root", you can also purchase a VPS, which is a shared server, running multiple os images on the server, so every image has the capability of installing custom scripts and applications. If you run a LARGE (more than 100,000 unique visitors per month) and you need the ability to run custom scripts and applications, you need a dedicated server, which means you have 1 computer only your company uses. We have LARGE sites running on a shared server, because they don't need a SSL cert, and they don't need custom scripts.
Any questions, email me at support@niteanddayhosting.com

back to topic... one of bad thing about shared hosting is it subject to overselling. Which will always cause your site to down.

Shared hosting is OK if you wish to set up a single web site these days most shared plans come with a'lot of disk space and tons of BW! if you order a dedicated server you take a chance .. my advise .. TAKE IT put your money into dedicated and sell resellers/shared hosting its a good market the only issue with dedicated is you can lose money to start with the best thing is to buy a cheap server but upgrade as you go.

Ofcourse shared hosting is good if you host your website from any reliable company. This will also economize your expenditure. There are many cheap hosts www.indyahozting.com or many more also available.Shared hosting will not be bad if the provider is good.

1. Better price
2. Good for beginers - how many of us is able to configure the server? Not too much... In shared hosting you easily sign up and do nothing with server configuration.
3. Speed - if you choose a host with instant account activation, your website can be online in minutes.
