got a new comp

Well, after planning on my first build, my mom went out and bought a seminew computer (referbished). (I'm 17 btw, to clarify) She feels that I am not qualified to build my own computer since I havnt done it before and thats why she went and bought one. She got it at fry's, and it has....

intel quad q6600
advertizes viiv w/e that is
2 gb ddr2667
400 gb hdd
geforce 7950
+other standard stuff you know

$800 for that above
+5 yr prot plan $190
+1gb more she bought extra for $26
+geforce 8600 gt $118
+thermaltake 500 wat ps $70
total: $1204 before tax

I dont want to settle on this, and I am currently trying to get a friend to agree to help me build a computer so we can return this. If by chance I cant return it though, will this be an OK computer?

The upgrade to a 8600GT was a mistake. The 7950 though lacking DX10 support will outbench it anyday of the week. The PSU upgrade was also a waste, that rig would run fine with a 450W.

Whats your price range for something new and I'll see what I can do about getting you a config.

Cheers
Cameron
