My computers power supply destroyed itself last night. A major short circuit somewhere in my computer managed to burn of parts of the power supply internally.
Here are some computer specs:
Asus A8N32-SLI MOBO
Enermax Liberty 600W PS
Athlon X2 4200 processor
2 GB RAM
Nvida 6800 256MB PCI-Pro Video Card
2 DVD-Drives, 2 Hard Disk
I have already tested a new power supply and it is clear that the motherboard is also dead. What is not clear is what actually caused the problem. I have been reading up on the model of motherboard I was using, and it appears to be quite temperamental. And supposedly, you are not supposed to use both the EZ power connector and an ATX 1.2 connector simultanouesly, which might cause the video card to short.
Now I haven't actually seen an signs of physical damage on my system outside the power supply, although I am fairly certain the motherboard is dead. I may need to look over my computer components more carefully.
Does anyone here have a clear understanding of these types of power supply problems? I could really use some help in determining what on the computer actually caused the power supply to overload, and how much collateral damage this failure caused.
Thanks for the help.
