Is Vista Any Good

I keep reading that there are problems with Vista and that a recent survey suggests that 50% of people buying new machines are specifically asking for XP and insisting that Vista is NOT used.

What exactly are the problems with Vista? It certainly doesn't seem like a step forward if people don't want it.

Anyone know the truth?

Yes I do know the truth. Its simple, people are retarded. When asked what is wrong with vista 99.9% of people will respond with "well I heard." Most of these users are listening to scare tactics used by anti-vista / anti-M$ groups and don't actually know whats up with vista.

Personally I have been using Vista since it was a beta. I was a member of winvistasecrets.com during that period, and I have watched Vista mature. Its a very stable OS that has quite a bit of performance, if you set it up and maintain it properly. Personally I am a hardcore gamer, so when I made the official switch to vista I wanted to make sure that I wasn't diving headfirst into a shitstorm, but I wasn't . I get exactly, if not better FPS in Vista as I did XP. And everything else works just fine too.

The only downside of Vista is the network transfer speeds. They are painfully slow. SP1 helped a tiny bit, but they are still around only 6MBPS unlike XP that gets upwards of 100. Since I do large amounts of data transfer over my network this has hurt me quite a bit, however if they improved it once, they will do it again, and my guess is that before SP2 it will be up to par.

The only reason's I don't recommend moving to Vista would be
1: A computer with less than 1GB RAM, less than a 3Ghz single core processor, and less than a DX9c GPU.
2: You do huge amounts of network transfers.

Other than that Vista is a wonderful OS that if people would take the time to learn and try, they would like.

Also remember back when XP came out? Pre SP-2 people HATED it. With a passion. I mean XP hating was an Olympic sport. However now its the "gold standard." When we compare the adoption of the two, Vista wins by leaps and bounds.

Cheers
Cameron
